Many players (and listeners) appreciate the unmistakably smooth sound of a fretless bass. Sigma's BMC-15FE+ is a fretless electro-acoustic bass guitar that's perfect for acoustic sessions too. This jumbo-sized model produces a big sound that is full and warm thanks to the mahogany body with solid top and micarta fretboard. The wood types used in its construction give it a great look, particularly in combination with the natural finish. For a great sound when amplified, this electro-acoustic bass is equipped with a Fishman piezo pickup and preamp.

Hardware and electronics

Although this fretless model doesn't have frets, it does have fret lines to ensure you don't lose your place. Top-quality hardware includes a bridge saddle and string nut made of bone and machine heads by Grover. The piezo pickup and preamp are both made by Fishman and are top notch too. The preamp is an Isys III that has volume, bass, treble and phase controls, along with a built-in tuner.

Sigma guitars

In the 1970s, Martin Guitars launched a series of attractively-priced models under the name Sigma Guitars in order to compete with the growing number of cheaper models being produced in the Far East. Unfortunately, they stopped producing them in 2007 but a German company breathed new life into the name in 2011. With Martin Guitars' blessing, these models are now made in China. They're subject to strict quality controls and everything from the way they're made to the design of the headstock do the original models justice. In short, these acoustic guitars offer the same excellent value for money as the original models did. In the USA, these models are distributed by Martin under the name Kindred Guitars because they no longer hold rights to the Sigma Guitars name'.
