Rogers Drums USA Dyna-Sonic Beavertail Black Diamond Pearl
General
Those in the know are already well aware of the legend that is the Rogers Dyna-Sonic snare drum. In the '60s and '70s its popularity was unprecedented and for great reason. As far back as 1849, Rogers started developing drum skins and grew to expand production to snare drums and hardware with a focus on innovation and creativity. Between 1950 and 1980, they were the most successful company of its kind until 1983 when the curtain finally fell. While attempts have since been made to breathe new life into the once-great manufacturer, it wasn't until 2013 that efforts started to bear fruit. Much needed investment combined with the unrivalled experience of seasoned drummers has refocussed Rogers and renewed its mission to produce innovative and high-quality gear. The result is the undeniable return of the Legend.
The Rogers Dyna-Sonic 36BP Beavertail
This particular Rogers Dyna-Sonic snare may as well have been delivered fresh from the factory floor of the '60s or '70s. The only difference between the original and this faithful remake is the inclusion of plastic washers, but this is actually an improvement since the tension rods now sit more solidly. The 14 by 5-inch format shell is made of 5-ply maple reinforced by internal rings and finished with a vintage-style Black Diamond Pearl wrap.
Beavertail Lugs
Probably familiar to some, the shell comes fitted with throw-back Beavertail lugs and a 1.6mm triple-flanged tension hoop. A vintage moulded Rogers Script Logo badge; oval Dyna-Sonic badge; 'clock face' snare-strainer, and adjustable internal damper are also fitted. The less aesthetic and more technical details help shape the massive tuning range of this snare by offering total control over the sound, definition and sensitivity so that it can be uniquely personalised to suit the particular character of any drummer.
Choke-Free Snare Rail System
Everyone knew what Rogers was capable of in terms of innovation but when the Dyna-Sonic first hit, it was nothing short of a revolution. Before the Dyna-Sonic came along, you were often forced to tighten the snare-mat so much that it would come into contact with the resonance head and produce an annoyingly negative effect. With the introduction of the 'free-floating system' in 1962, this problem quickly became nothing but a bad memory. This system ensures that the snare-mat actually rests on a bed, so that it barely touches the reso-head and the problem of loose and rattling snare wires, pressure or unwanted damping of the resonant head is removed, leaving a superior sounding snare capable of picking up the smallest details with breathtaking precision and a tension system than can be adjusted with one simple knob.
