Pearl WST20FP Field Percussion Shime Taiko
General
You may have heard of a taiko, a large Japanese drum with impressive power, especially when there's a whole ensemble of percussionists playing them. A smaller, rope-strung version of the taiko is called a shime-daiko, and Pearl now has their own version of that instrument: the WST20FP Field Percussion Shime Taiko. It's a great-looking percussive instrument, that is tunable with tension rods instead of rope. Of course it doesn't have as deep a sound as the large drums do, but with its 10-inch diameter it can still produce impressive grooves. In any case, it's an interesting addition to any musical ensemble.
About the Field Percussion series
You can use the Field Percussion series instruments both inside and out, come rain or shine. Wooden instruments don't do well when it rains, but these instruments have fibreglass shells that won't even care. Pearl gave this Shime Taiko (shime-daiko) a dark-brown colour, which gives it a more natural look, allowing it to fit in better amongst other drums. Furthermore, a special waterproof Remo drumhead allows you to play as hard as you can, rain or no rain.
