With the Starclassic Performer B/B Tama delivers a unique addition to their Starclassic line of drums. They have made a shell set that consists of birch shells with a few inner plies of bubinga. Bubinga, an African wood type, is on average 53% harder than maple and birch. It emphasises the low-end, and combined with the great attack provided by the birch, that makes for one great-sounding hybrid kit. This four-piece Starclassic Performer Birch Bubinga shell set in Platinum Sparkle consists of a 22-inch bass drum, 10 and 12-inch toms and a 16-inch floor tom.

It should come as no surprise that this shell set is equipped with top-quality hardware: with its streamlined design, the Star-Cast Mounting System allows for optimal shell resonance. On the Birch Bubinga kits, this mounting system is made of aluminium, which is lighter and allows for a more natural tonal vibration. Instead of the common triple-flanged hoops, Tama chose to use zinc die-cast hoops. These hoops don't just create a sharper attack and clear highs, but they also allow for more powerful rim-shots and, more importantly, they make sure your tuning stays consistent.

Finding the ideal position for your toms is a quick and easy job, thanks to the Starclassic Performer tom holder. This has a sliding connector, which you can slide back and forth up to about 5 centimetres. By simply loosening the wing bolt, you can adjust your toms to suit your preference in no time at all.

Bass drum hardware

This shell set is also equipped with sturdy bass drum claw hooks that have little to no chance of damaging your (wooden) hoops, thanks to their rubber lining. The Air-Cushioned bass drum legs are also among the fancier features: they have a special air chamber that prevents the sound and sustain of your bass drum from disappearing into the ground, while also absorbing shocks created by your playing.
