General

The Starclassic Performer BB series is a remarkable creation by Tama, as it combines two types of wood to create a unique sound. The powerful sound of birch is combined with the warm sound of bubinga. This five-piece shell set consists of a 22 x 20-inch virgin bass drum, 10 x 6.5 and 12 x 7-inch toms, and 14 x 12 and 16 x 14 floor toms with a Molten Brown Burst finish.

Tama combined the two types of wood by taking 3 plies of bubinga as the base of each shell. They then added four plies of birch for the toms, and five for the bass drum, bringing the total thickness of the shells to 6 and 8 millimetres, respectively. Furthermore, Tama chose to mount the toms with their StarCast tom mounting system, which optimises resonance by suspending the toms from their hoops instead of the shells. The floor toms are equipped with Air Cushioned legs, featuring special air chambers in the feet, that prevent the vibrations from disappearing into the ground. And the bass drum also has a rich, full sound as it is a virgin model that has no holes drilled into it.

Hardware

The bass drum hoops are made of wood and come in the same beautiful finish as the shells, and they're held in place by Tama's special claw hooks. Meanwhile, the toms and floor toms feature die-cast hoops that have no structural weak points, keeping the tension on the Evans drumheads consistent for a long, long time. You can mount the toms on the special (included) MC69 clamps that will fit on any regular stand. Both toms and floor toms are equipped with the Quick-Lock tom brackets, that make setting up and tearing down your kit a fast and efficient process. Finally, all hardware on the shells features the same chrome-plated finish.
