General

The Meinl HDJ5-S is a compact mahogany djembe from the Headliner series. The mahogany used in creating this instrument is carefully selected from trees grown on Meinl's own plantation. After that, the djembe is carved from a single, solid piece of wood, giving it extra durability and a beautiful, traditional sound. The HDJ5-S has a rustic, natural brown colour that shows off the wood grain nicely, while the lower half has a hand-painted image. This 8-inch Headliner djembe comes with an 8-inch goatskin drumhead, and offers great quality at a reasonable price.

Tuning

This small djembe has a 15.75-inch deep shell on which the drumhead is mounted by nylon ropes, with sixteen runners keeping the tension spread evenly over the head. It's mounted by means of a traditional Malinese weaving technique for enhanced reliability and durability. Thanks to the handy carrying strap, the djembe is easy to transport. All in all, it's an artisanally crafted djembe with a rich sound.
