Fender 1963 Stratocaster Sunburst (para cambio)
General
Are you a fan of vintage products and do you prefer playing instruments to hanging them from a wall? This gem is an original L-Series Fender Stratocaster from 1963. It had just one owner in all of its 50+ years: a genuine Rock 'n Roller that made hit songs in the sixties with the Dutch band The Rascals. Despite having seen over half a century of musical mastery, it still has many decades ahead of it. It is ready to play and sounds like a dream. If you'd choose a beautifully worn look over a showroom shine any day of the week, then this is the guitar for you! This pre-CBS Stratocaster comes with its original case (heavily worn), original tremolo arm and original merchandise booklet with all of Fender's products of 1963.
1963 Fender Stratocaster: original features
From its alder body and nitrocellulose 3-Tone Sunburst lacquer to the C-shape maple neck (2 JUL 63B) with laminated Rio rosewood fretboard and Clay Dot inlays, everything is still in the same place it was when this guitar left Fender's workshop in 1963. Apart from the (included) 3-way pickup switch, however, as it has been replaced by a 5-way version so that this 63 Strat allows you to go for those sparkly mid positions. The three black bottom pickups, mint-green pickguard with alu shielding plate, knobs, tremolo bridge with steel block and Pat. Pend. saddles, single-line Kluson Deluxe machine heads, string guide and bone string nut all belong on this guitar, along with the rest of the hardware and screws. Even the logos on its headstock are still fully there!
Modifications and repairs
In its long career as a stage knockout, this 1963 Fender Strat has lost its original frets. After being re-fretted some years ago, its heel was recently sanded down 2 millimetres to give it a higher action. However, the neck has been shimmed to give the saddles enough tinkering room and restore the action back to normal. Due to breaking wires, the neck and middle pickup have been re-wound with period-correct wire and fitted with the right cloth wire. The sound of this electric guitar is still as full and sparkling as before. As the bottom of the middle pickups is sanded at the pole of the thin E string, some caution is needed when adjusting the height.
