Squier Vintage Modified Mustang Vintage White RW
General
The Squier Vintage Modified series comprises affordable and modified versions of legendary Fender classics. This particular model was based on the alternatively shaped short-scale Mustang guitar from 1964. Squier has managed to copy the original as accurately as possible but has opted to replace the original pickups with a set of fatter-sounding Duncan Designed single coils. The company has also increased the fretboard radius to a more modern 9.5-inch radius that, in combination with the taller medium jumbo frets, provides for more playing comfort, especially when bending the strings in higher positions. This Squier Vintage Modified Mustang features a Vintage White finish and a period-correct red tortoise pickguard.
Authentic details of the Squier Vintage Modified Mustang
Distinctive features of the Mustang guitar include its small, asymmetrical body and shorter, 24-inch scale length. These make it easier to play for guitarists with smaller hands. Equally characteristic are the two angled single-coil pickups that produce the tight, clear sound that, along with its alternatively shaped body, made the Jaguar a popular guitar among rock guitarists in the surf scene. The Dynamic Vibrato tailpiece is ideal for those distinctive slide and tremolo effects. Squier didn't skip a single detail, from the tuners with white peg heads to the vintage-correct seam between the pickguard and chrome-plated control plate. Its neck has also got the right looks, with its vintage-tinted high-gloss lacquer and light-brown position markers (that excellently imitate the original clay dots, by the way).
Unique pickup configuration with phase out option
Compared to most traditional guitars, switching between the two pickups is a little different on the Mustang. Each pickup is provided with its own three-position slide switch. In middle position, the pickup is switched off and in the other two positions it's on. Were you to turn the bridge pickup's switch off and the other one on, you'll use only the neck pickup and vice-versa. Flick both switches in the same direction to use both pickups simultaneously. With the switches in opposite direction, the pickups are out of phase and produce a thinner yet very usable sound. Additionally, a master volume and tone control are at your disposal to fine-tune your sound.
The Squier brand
Ever since Fender introduced their first electric guitar in the fifties, many competing manufacturers have produced cheap imitations of varying quality. To offer the same reliability, sound and playability of the original at a reasonable price, Fender started a subsidiary in 1982: Squier (not to be confused with the Fender Esquire). Squier's guitars and bass guitars are built under supervision and to specifications of Fender itself, so that you can rely on the fact that you are purchasing an authentic, high-quality instrument.
