The resonance chamber has been constructed using a solid sitka spruce top and a flamed maple back and matching sides to add a healthy dose of clarity and brightness to the overall sound as well as a sumptuous look. All of this, combined with the mahogany neck and ovangkol fretboard, gives the J40SCE a beautifully wide and rich acoustic tone. This tone is amplified with natural purity by the fitted Fishman Presys+501T preamp which can be tweaked as needed using the provided controls while, in terms of playing comfort, the soft and deep cutaway body allows easy access to the highest frets, while the light-feeling neck makes for a fast and supple playing experience. In short, the Washburn J40SCE offers more than enough for very little money.
