If you're after a good steel-string guitar that's a step up from an entry-level model, then the FS830 concert with its strong solid spruce top and rosewood back and sides is a strong contender. Fifty years ago, Yamaha launched the FG series, which was an instant success. Since then, the more compact concert-style FS models have been added to the range.

Guitar construction

One of the most important factors that determines an acoustic guitar's sound is its top. The top of this FS830 is made of solid spruce, which results in a long sustain and warm tone that only gets better with age. The dark-brown rosewood sides and back offer a dose of rich overtones and the guitar is adorned with a luxurious abalone rosette around the soundhole. Finally, its slender neck with rolled fret edges is comfortable to play and scalloped bracing enable extra projection of the bass and mid tones.
