For decades, Hammond's tonewheel organs have been a real phenomenon. In fact, they are so popular, that various digital editions have been developed. With the XK-3c, Hammond presented its own digital model, which offers the same authentic playing experience and warm sound as the brand's legendary classics. A VASE III sound engine emulates 96 tone wheels that, like those of an old-fashioned Hammond, turn incessantly, only virtually. That way, the classic Hammond sound is perfectly simulated, be it for pop, jazz or rock.

Hammond XK-3c: the power of a Leslie

To a great extent, the Hammond sound is determined by a Leslie speaker. These sizeable speaker cabinets are equipped with rotating speakers that disperse the organ's output, creating a rich sound full of depth and motion. The XK-3c digitally models various Leslie speakers: the Leslie 122, 147, 31H, 722, 760, 825 and 935. Seventeen different parameters allow you to adjust the Leslie presets, which means you're able to configure your own favourite virtual setup for a custom sound. Finally, it's even possible to connect a genuine Leslie via the keyboard's 11-pin connector. Whether you choose the virtual or the real-life option, the characteristic sound is a real treat.

Valve boost and flexibility

When digital key instruments are reviewed, criticism is often directed at their sound. 'Thin' and 'lifeless' aren't uncommon descriptions. For a Hammond, warmth and even overdrive are of the essence, however, which is why we're pleased to announce that the XK-3c features two valves that serve as preamplifiers. A 12AX7 and a 12AU7 add that typical heart-warming tube sound to your amplified output. An overdrive knob puts you in charge of the overdrive level, allowing for both screaming leads and classic rock parts. In short, this drawbar keyboard's sound is top-notch. With regards to MIDI, there are five assignable zones at your disposal, as well as two MIDI INs for the connection of a lower manual and a pedal. Live organists will be delighted by this Hammond's low weight (a mere 40.8 lbs). In the old days, a Hammond with seven built-in Leslies like this would be much harder on your back!
