With British brand Laney's new tube amp head, you can join the fight between Red and Black! The GH50R produces 50 watts of power and let's your guitar sing thanks to two EL34 power tubes and four 12AX7 preamp tubes. It's possible to adjust the overdrive on both the power tubes and the preamp tubes independently and then mix the sound together, which is where the fight begins. An included foot switch lets you change easily between the two channels. Let's get it on!

Round one

According to Laney, the sound of the GH50R lies somewhere between the Ironheart and Lionheart amplifiers. This means you can get a vintage rock crunch or a modern metal sound from this amp head and put each one on a different channel. There are separate controls for each channel. Both have a drive knob, while channel two has an extra volume knob. You'll also find a 3-band EQ, and knobs for controlling the master tone, output and reverb. Drive 1 and the mid knob have a push/pull function for even more tone adjustment.

Is it a K.O.?

Well, nearly, but let's not forget about the rear panel, which is just as important as the front panel on the GH50R. On the rear, you'll find sockets for connecting five different types of cabinets (1x 4 ohms, 1x 8 ohms, 2x 8 ohms, 1x 16 ohms and 2x 16 ohms). There's also a balanced D.I. output, should you wish to connect directly to a mixing desk, with the possibility to emulate a speaker cabinet. Effects pedals can be added via the FX loop and there's even an aux input for connecting an external sound source so that you can play along with your favourite songs. Now it really is a K.O!
