Does a drummer with the credentials of someone like Mike Portnoy even need an introduction? It's pretty likely that this man has played on at least one of your favourite ever albums, but he was first known for his work as part of Dream Theater, has since played in possibly hundreds of bands, and has worked with artists ranging from Avenged Sevenfold to Neal Morse. Such a varied and colourful CV must demand vast knowledge about what drum sound fits perfectly where. As such, Tama have let Mike lose on his very own range of signature snares. This particular example is the 12-inch Melody Master.

The Tama MP125ST Mike Portnoy Melody Master Snare

The MP125ST Melody Master is the smallest offering from Mike Portnoy's signature range of snares. Intended as a side-snare, but after a little tuning, this plucky little Tama-made model is also more than able to take on the role as a main snare. The 1mm thick steel shell is supported by a set of six Tama Die-Cast tension lugs and, unique to these signature snares, a three-way snare tension system can be switched from tight, to mid-tension, or off. This gives this snare masses of adaptability, even mid-set.
