Catalinbread Dreamcoat Preamp Effects Pedal
General
Based on the legend that was the Aiwa TP-1011 reel-to-reel deck, the Catalinbread Dreamcoat literally coats your output in the stuff that dreams are made of, throwing your sound all the way back to the sixties and seventies. This preamp pedal hands you full, detailed control so you can replicate everything from that Neil-Young style rip and crunch from Crazy Horse so your solos cut effortlessly through the mix, to clean and clear, defined output, framed by lush warmth.
The Catalinbread Dreamcoat: Custom Overdrive + Extra Headroom and Blend Control
This stompbox basically decks out your sound in an outfit of your choosing. You get far more headroom to play with than the original tape machine: tweak the SAT pot to add some very specific tape-style distortion and engage the frequency booster to make your sound stand out in all the right places. Experiment with the Blend pot and scroll through an array of tonal profiles and, to gain the deep-purple sound of Blackmore, simply team the Dreamcoat up with a Catalinbread Skewer.

I wanted a slightly wilder lead sound; like most guitarists I have a few overdrive pedals that are all trying to obtain the impossible I guess... we hear a particular tone plus gain and then seek it out. I wanted a pedal that gave my Strat a more seventies condensed sound - it doesn't help that; I use a fairly clean high headroom approach, my amp is the. Fendery/vox end of the equation and the sound I was seeking started with a fairly middy overload into a Marshally head from a HB or p90 stylee guitar. Having watched a review of this pedal on YT it seemed that this might get close. And to be fair it is a wild pedal.. I use another gain pedal after it with 3 tone controls to give me on the floor tweaks (I guess akin to the treble boost it can pair with - but I'm a cheapscate and it's fine) but I mostly use it by itself as a kick up the jacksie solo tool.. I think you could pair this with a wah and a nice trem/vibe and happily do all of the groundhogs repertoire In One hit with a very small footprint. It's quite a beast - and running the clean signal back in on the blend makes for degree of refinement, the overdrive component is very musical old school, if your looking for the UK type of tone that inspired 1977 guitar music onwards look no further- covers Woodstock to 1990s Reading happily: think Mr H, Blackmore, Hillage Garry Green then on into Pistols and Damned territory with Ronson in the back pocket... so it's a good tool if your using single coils into a lowish gain amp.. very helpful
