Mesa Boogie Subway+ Bass DI-Preamp
General
Having based the design on the popular Subway D800+, Mesa Boogie now present an even more extensive DI box in a compact stompbox housing. This Subway+ has everything needed to forge the perfect bass guitar sound and, next to the familiar 4-band EQ and voicing pot, there's a new hi-pass filter, a boost function and a powerful 2-band semi-parametric mid section. The XLR direct out and balanced and unbalanced preamp outputs have been joined by a practical mono effects loop so you can hook up your go-to effects, and Mesa Boogie have been thoughtful enough to stick the whole thing in a lightweight yet durable casing to keep it safe while you're on your way to the stage.

The subway + is the best bass preamp that I've used so far. You can get all the classic Mesa tones out of it and the potential for dialing the particular sound you're looking for is right there at your fingertips. I find the deep and bright boost switches a really quick way to get things going then you just choose your gain stage. I then dial in my highpass requirements and choose the voicing EQ curve. You're then just left with the super versatile parametric EQ. Having 2 sweepable mid frequencies gives you so many options to get the sound you're looking for. I also find it useful if I need to match one particular bass guitar sound to another - perhaps something that has already been recorded and you want to overdub a part. You can get things pretty close with this much control. Finally I love having the clean DI as well as the processed signal. You can record both and balance them later in your mix. You can also reamp your bass into your amp system giving you a lot of options. Very impressed
