General
The Nord electro 4D stage piano by Clavia is, simply put, a joy to play. Thanks to the graceful 61-key semi-weighted waterfall keyboard your fingers always glide smoothly over the keys. To add to that, the B3 tone wheel and the drawbars have been inherited from the Clavia organ flagship, the Nord C2D. Along with piano and organ sounds, you also have the freedom to install extra sounds from the ever-expanding Nord sample libraries. Thanks to its compact size, the Nord Electro 4D is exceptionally lightweight (only 7 kg), making it ideal for use on stage.
The piano module of the Electro 4D
You'll notice right away that the piano sounds are incredibly realistic, and they are equipped with a couple of unique features including Long Release and String Resonance. The Long Release function allows you to increase the amount of time a sound continues to resonate, so you can play with a beautiful legato. The String Resonance function simulates the beautiful acoustic phenomenon that takes place inside an acoustic piano. This happens then the un-dampened strings or string parts resonate because of other strings that are being played.
Stage piano with simple control
You can control the Hammond simulation with the drawbars to get a sound ranging anywhere from screaming and raw to warm and supple. Along with the Hammond B3, the lively Farfisa Compact Delux and Vox Continental models are also available. You can quickly and easily switch between different programs thanks to the four program banks and four live locations. Finally, the hands-on effect section has been improved with a new flexible delay effect with tap-tempo and stereo Ping-Pong modes.

Clavia heeft een van de beste piano en rhodes geluiden op de markt. Op een opname hoor je het verschil nauwelijks in geluid tussen een echte Rhodes & een Clavia Rhodes. De Electro 4D heeft redelijk goede key action. Persoonlijk vind ik ze iets te plastic en kunstmatig voelen. Er zit een soort terug springende veer effect in de toetsen, en als je ze heel zacht speelt dan kunnen sommige toetsen zelfs een raar krakend geluidje maken. De weighted keys op mijn Nord Stage vind ik een stuk fijner voelen, maar dan is de piano ook een stuk zwaarder natuurlijk! Ook vind ik het jammer dat de Electro 4D geen synthesizer geluiden heeft. Natuurlijk weet men dit van te voren, maar het zou top zijn als Clavia een compacte Rhodes / Piano en Synthesizer combinatie kan maken in de toekomst (geen Stage!). Al met al een erg goed instrument voor zowel live als studio gebruik en een echte aanrader voor iemand die goede Rhodes, CP & piano geluiden zoekt.
