Somehow, Nigel Hendroff has managed to pack every ounce of his expertise into one stunningly finished model: the singular Gretsch G6134TFM-NH Nigel Hendroff Signature Penguin.

This insanely flexible six-string is steered via a simplified tone circuit that effortlessly scrolls through clean tonal warmth with a light sparkle, all the way through hard, rock-worthy output. Courtesy of Gretsch Japan, this instrument has been built with a painstakingly detailed approach, from the materials to the looks.

Clear & Forceful Tone

The mahogany body has been chambered, meaning that strategically placed holes lower the overall weight while raising the resonance, and here, the smart construction has been combined with a flamed maple top to liven up the tone. On top of that, the pair of Tim Shaw designed BT65 Broad’Tron humbuckers supply a blend of classic Gretsch sound and forceful tone framed by lightly enhanced mids. Intuitive control over the amplified sound is offered by the two-pot (volume and tone) setup and three-way switch, while an Adjusto-Matic bridge and Bigsby B7CP String-Thru tailpiece lay down classic Bigsby-flavoured vibrato effects.

A Superior Finish

The mahogany neck has the buttery-soft feel of a satin-gloss finish and the comfy and controlled playability of a U-profile carve and an ebony fretboard with a 12 inch radius. The fretboard features pearloid position markers to help navigate the set of twenty-two medium-jumbo frets, and to polish everything off, a set of Grover Imperial locking tuners lay down solid tuning and flawless intonation.
