While staying true to its roots, this contemporary tone machine has been built to push sound and playability to the next level. The Japanese-made Ibanez Prestige Series AZ2204 might as well be a modern classic, but the only truly familiar feature is the ST-style alder body. Even that has been tweaked for a tighter, more snug feel due to the refined forearm contour and belly-cut, the deeper cut of the waist and light differences in the rounding. The Oval-C neck profile has also been upgraded so that, lower down the neck, chords can be grabbed with ease while further up, the feel is just as tight and agile. The set of 22, highly-durable, stainless-steel jumbo frets helps as well.

The AZ2204: Stable Playability

The roasted maple neck has been put through Ibanez' own S-Tech treatment, where the wood is exposed to nitrogen to enhance its resistance to moisture and temperature shifts before being coated in oil for the smoothest feel possible. This stability has been carried through to a reliable set of Gotoh hardware, including a set of H.A.P-M locking machine heads and a two-point tremolo bridge with six individually adjustable saddles.

Tremolo Tricks and Tonal Gymnastics

The tremolo arm of the AZ2204 can be pushed to the absolute limit with assured stability while every bit of hardware guarantees clear definition across the entire frequency range and beautifully tight response. All of this is backed up by the HSS configured set of Seymour Duncan Hyperion pickups, 5-way switch, single volume and tone pots and dyna-MIX 9 system with extra switch, expanding the tonal range of this flexible instrument from the standard five possible foundation sounds to a far-reaching nine, giving you an extra four balanced and warm Alnico-5 driven tones.
