Foo Fighters' bass player Nate Mendel has been a fan of Ashdown amps for many years. He also loves to use distortion effects to beef up his sound. Reason enough for the British manufacturer to create a signature effect pedal for the famous bass player. The Ashdown NM2 Nate Mendel Double Drive Pedal encompasses anything a modern bass player could wish for. Two different distortions share a single, very versatile stomp box that fully retains the original sound.

Features of the Ashdown NM2

This pedal offers two different distortions: a mild one on channel 1, and one with a bit more oomph on channel 2. You can select either of the two sounds, or even a combination of both, with the two foot switches. The NM2 features two separate outputs plus a switch that lets you go from bridged mode (only output 2) to stereo mode (output 1+2), so you can send both distortions to individual bass amplifiers. There's a +10dB boost switch to apply extra gain to the second channel.

Additional pedal functions

The two outputs of the Ashdown NM2 have the exact same level as the incoming signal. It is to this unaffected dry signal that the distortion effects are applied, which means the original dynamics and bass of your bass guitar are fully retained. Lastly, there's the characteristic Ashdown VU meter, which can be activated with a mini switch. A great tool for optimally adjusting the balance between the clean and the distorted sound.
